Ready to Serve Cameron Parish

Welcome to South Cameron Memorial Hospital.

In the horrific winds and tide of Hurricane Rita, South Cameron Memorial Hospital was completely destroyed.

In the aftermath of that tragedy, a national recovery campaign, substatially aided by former President George H. W Bush, rebuilt the hospital strong enough to withstand future hurricanes, which were sure to come.

The hospital was equipped with state of the art diagnostic and treatment equipment, with comfortable and appealing patient rooms, lab and a top notch emergency department. An off-site rural health clinic was also established to provide medical services to the residents of Cameron Parish.

Since that time the inevitable hurricanes came again, Katrina and then Ike, which smashed into Cameron with such force that all the buildings in the town, except South Cameron Memorial Hospital, were destoryed into crumbles. Following Katrina, the hospital opened its doors to 45 special needs patients and their families who were displaced as a result of the destruction of Gulf Coast states.

Among the services now provided by South Cameron are:
  • acute inpatient
  • skilled nursing
  • 24-hour emergency care
  • diagnostic x-rays
  • CT scans
  • in-house lab testing
  • ambulatory services
